Born in Naples in 1989, Gennaro Maione received his classical and contemporary dance training at Ballet Teatro Scuola Rossella Rossi.

He furthered his studies in Berlin and Brussels at Tanzfabrik, Dock 11, DansCentrumJette, Compagnie Thor, and through an advanced choreographic training programme with Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch.

In Italy, he has performed with Compagnia Körper, Collettivo Nada, Balletto di Napoli, Dignità Autonome di Prostituzione, MP3 Projects, and the Napoli Teatro Festival. He also served as artistic movement supervisor for the second season of the television series Gomorrah, produced by Sky.

Internationally, he has worked with Compagnie Karine Saporta, Compagnie Labo DSN, and Compagnie RBS, and performed in a project by A. M. Dolores at Camping Town and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. He has also collaborated as choreographer with the collective Palco 11zero8.

He is the founder of GMW, his own artistic platform through which he develops and presents his choreographic projects and creative research.

His works have been presented at national and international festivals in Italy, Mexico, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, France, the United States, and Bulgaria, receiving numerous awards and recognitions in the field of choreography. In Italy, he has participated in leading festivals including SoloCoreografico, Kilowatt Festival, Cortoindanza, Premio InDivenire, BodySongs Festival, HangartFest, and TenDance Festival. In 2019, he was selected for the European platform Aerowaves Spring Forward.

As a teacher and choreographer, he has collaborated with Movimento Danza, Compagnia Körper, Art Garage, Opificio in Movimento, Derida Dance Center, OCRAM Dance Movement, Scenario Pubblico, CPRB – Contemporary Project, Fondazione Lyceum Mara Fusco, and with the association France Parkinson on a dance-theatre production written by Teresa Olavarrieta in Orléans, France.

In 2022, he created the short film Argento Vivo, a tribute to filmmaker Dario Argento, which was officially selected and nominated at several national and international film festivals.

Alongside his artistic career, he teaches contemporary dance technique and choreographic composition at numerous institutions and training centres throughout Italy and abroad.
