Roberto Tedesco

Choreographer and dancer

Born in 1992, he began studying dance at the age of eleven. In 2009, he joined the Balletto di Toscana School, where he also performed with the Junior BDT company. In 2011, he became a member of Aterballetto, remaining with the company for ten years and working with some of the most influential choreographers on the international dance scene, including Ohad Naharin, Jiří Kylián, Hofesh Shechter, William Forsythe, Johan Inger, and others.

During his years with Aterballetto, he began developing his own choreographic practice. He participated twice in the International Choreographic Competition Hannover, where he received the Critics’ Award, and created Cemento for the In/Finito project and Turn the Tide for the MicroDanze project. In July 2021, he embarked on a full-time career as a freelance choreographer.

His duet Punch 24 was selected for the Vetrina della Giovane Danza d’Autore and was later restaged for MM Contemporary Dance Company under the title Round Trip. In Germany, he created Line-up for the Nationaltheater Mannheim, By the Throat for Ballett Vorpommern, and was selected for the Think Big programme at the Staatsoper Hannover, where he created Superorganismo.

He was selected for ResiDance XL, an initiative of the Anticorpi XL Network, where he began developing Decisione Consapevole (Conscious Decision). The work was shortlisted for DNA – Appunti Coreografici 2022 and, nominated by Körper – National Dance Production Centre for NID Platform Cagliari 2023, was selected for the Open Studios programme.

He was also selected for SupportER, an initiative of the Anticorpi Emilia-Romagna Network, where he created the duet Simbiosi (Symbiosis). The work was once again selected for the Vetrina della Giovane Danza d’Autore and received a Special Mention at the Prospettiva Danza Teatro Award. In 2023, he was supported by Teatro Comunale di Vicenza as an artist of the Festival Danza in Rete.

He created Standpoints for Callas Callas Callas, a production by Opus Ballet. His full-length work Decisione Consapevole, produced by Körper – National Dance Production Centre, premiered in 2024 at the Aterballetto National Choreographic Centre, which also co-produced the work.

In January 2024, he received the Danza&Danza Award for Emerging Italian Choreographer 2023.
