Genealogia is a shared practice and a choreographic research project that can take different forms and formats of presentation, born from the desire to undertake an artistic, choreographic, and human experiment.

In this sense, a group of professionals, guided by Luna Cenere, researches and develops a movement vocabulary and a compositional structure. The aim of the project is to engage with different hosting contexts by involving local communities and sharing the research process, opening it up to the creation of a new composition born from the encounter between professionals and non-professionals, which can then be presented as a performance at the end of the process.

It is a research project with an installation-based nature, as seen in Luna Cenere’s previous works, to which is added the relational dimension of a community: a group that becomes expression, place, and a landscape in transformation and migration. This work is an artistic, choreographic, and human experiment. It explores the coexistence on stage of professional dancers with artists, non-professional dancers, and participants with no specific background in dance. This choice responds to the desire to investigate the physical and philosophical dimension of the body and the different “-ologies” connected to it.

Genealogia is not conceived solely as a performance, but as a shared practice and choreographic research that can be expressed through different forms. It is a real process of deconstruction and reconstruction of thought that takes place during the research period (workshops) with citizens who choose to participate through an open call.

Continuing her investigation into the body in a state of nudity, Luna reveals its metaphysical and animalistic potential.

On 5 and 6 September 2020, Genealogia premiered in a time-specific version at the Oriente Occidente Dance Festival, at the Bell of the Fallen (Campana dei Caduti) in Rovereto. For this stage of the research, developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the project focused on the theme of distance between bodies and within bodies, exploring new choreographic and compositional strategies.

Specifically, following an open call that received responses from both amateurs and professionals throughout Italy, Luna led a preparatory process and the transmission of the project’s themes through a series of online meetings.
