Conscious Decision originated as a conceptual map designed to guide sessions of instant improvisation—a framework to follow, a point of reference for developing a choreographic work in which four dancers confront the consequences of their own choices.
An empty space to be filled and emptied through their awareness and the potential of their decisions.
Isolation. Intimacy. Communication. Community. Four key words guide four bodies within a field of action so dense and precisely defined that it leaves room for nothing but the self and the encounter with the other.
Each word contains an infinite range of possibilities. It opens up a spectrum of potential modes of being and acting, into which the external eye intervenes to shape the composition and create a shared space for action.
From this emerges a necessary awareness of gesture.
Then, unexpectedly, the choreographic structure is interrupted by an unconscious moment of nostalgia. Childhood memories resurface with complete spontaneity and purity, alongside snapshots of carefree adolescence and the unmistakable scents of home—fragrances that spread across the stage, continually and relentlessly transforming the state of the work.
What began as a simple map sketched on an A4 sheet of paper gradually becomes a journey through fragments of past, present, and perhaps even future lives.
